On this World AIDS Day we are filled with both hope and concern. Hope because significant progress has been made towards universal access. New HIV infections have dropped. Fewer children are born with HIV. And more than 4 million people are on treatment.

The conference took place on the eve of The World AIDS Day, December 1 which was for the first time commemorated in 1988. This year its motto was Universal Access and Human Rights.

UNAIDS and the All-Russian Union of People Living with HIV came together for the second time to support the international project Art Against AIDS that unites well-known artists in the response to the HIV epidemic in Russia. This year, proceeds from the sale of art at the exhibition went to low-income families raising children living with HIV.

Art Against AIDS

The International project Art Against AIDS began at the Central House of Artists on 12 November 2009. This project features a charity exhibit and sale of works by famous artists, photographers and musicians from Russia, Greece, Japan, Spain and the United States.
