Round table Youth a Source of Change

On July 1, 2009, a round table to sum up outcomes of the project “Scaling up HIV/AIDS Prevention Programmes Among Youth in the Russian Federation” was held in Moscow. The project had been implemented in six countries since 2006 by UNFPA, UNESCO, UNICEF under UNAIDS overall leadership.

Among the participants were Frode Mauring, UNDP Resident Representative in the Russian Federation, Karl Kulessa, Representative of UNFPA in RF, Bertrand Bainvel, UNICEF Representative in RF, Marina Semenchenko, UNAIDS Russia Team leader, Andrei Gerish, Ministry of Education of RF, Pavel Popov, Ministry of Sports, Tourism, and Youth Politics of RF, Irina Plakhotnikova, Federal Service of Surveillance Over Consumer Rights Protection and Human Well-Being, members of the Youth Council from 10 regions of RF.
Participants of the discussion acknowledged the importance of complex collaboration of all professional structures, working in the area of HIV and socially active youth seeking to contribute to HIV response. In the course of the project implementation innovative ideas on HIV prevention in 30 Russian regions were developed and implemented, resource portals to aid specialists were created and are functional, Youth Council uniting leaders from 15 regions was formed. Best practices will be used in HIV response.
The round table was broadcast online on July 1, 2009, from 10 to 12 am at www.unaids.ru
