On the World AIDS Day, December 1, UN staff in Russia underwent HIV testing. For the first time testing was organized in office in the framework of HIV in the Workplace programme.
UNAIDS and the All-Russian Union of People Living with HIV came together for the second time to support the international project Art Against AIDS that unites well-known artists in the response to the HIV epidemic in Russia. This year, proceeds from the sale of art at the exhibition went to low-income families raising children living with HIV.
The International project Art Against AIDS began at the Central House of Artists on 12 November 2009. This project features a charity exhibit and sale of works by famous artists, photographers and musicians from Russia, Greece, Japan, Spain and the United States.
Russia will create its own programs rather than borrow ideas from abroad to fight the biggest HIV epidemic in Eastern Europe, the country’s top epidemiologist, Gennady Onishchenko, told an AIDS conference Wednesday.
